When
Dan and Judy Bernard saw the opportunity to live directly on the shores
of Little Lake Harris, they decided to become a member of the Royal
Harbor community. The Bernards are great lovers of the outdoors, and
most of their activities take advantage of the warm temperatures that
make Central Florida so attractive.
Dan was born in Marion, Kansas, and Judy was
born in Kansas City, Missouri. They met while in college, and began
married life in Kansas City. They moved to Wichita during the early
'80s, and then to Laguna Niguel in Southern California before coming to
Florida in 2003.
As a chemist, Dan spent many years working
for paint companies. He began as a research chemist for Cook Paint Co.
in Kansas City. From there, he began working for Pratt & Lambert and
became the Technical Director of the Industrial Division over a
twenty-year period. Before his retirement, he was employed by Deft Inc.
in California as Vice-President of Research and Quality Control for
seventeen years.
Judy obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree
in Nursing, and enjoyed her time spent raising their two daughters.
Their first daughter, Laurie, lives in Texas and is the mother of two
daughters. Dana lives near Kansas City, and is a Radiology Technician.
She is also the mother of two daughters.
Judy and Dan enjoy boating, as well as other
outdoor activities. Behind their home, they have their own boat dock
that houses a motorboat and kayak. At every opportunity, they can be
found "riding the waves" on the lake or the surrounding rivers that
connect to it. Other outdoor interests include bocce ball and yard work.
As an indoor activity, Dan is currently learning stained glass
techniques, and Judy is a member of the Bear Club.
Dan's
first introduction to Central Florida occurred when he was sent to
Orlando for job-related training. As retirement approached, he
considered Florida because of its many outdoor activities, lakes and
warm weather, as opposed to the warm, dry temperatures of the Southwest.
While searching the Internet for retirement
community information, Judy came across the Pringle name and they
decided to check it out when they came to Florida. One look at Royal
Harbor convinced them that it was the perfect spot for them because of
its location on one of Central Florida's largest lakes.
Residents since June of 2003, Dan and Judy
are impressed by the many indoor and outdoor activities available at
Royal Harbor. On occasion, they attend the ballroom dances in the
Recreation Center and the 5 Thirsty Club social, where everyone brings
an appetizer to share with friends and neighbors.
Dan and Judy enjoy watching the sunrise
every morning from their lakefront home, along with their four-year-old
poodle named Oodles. They are delighted that they made the move all the
way from the west coast to the Central Florida area.
