There's
a lot of building going on around Clermont these days, including new
stores and restaurants. One of the area's newest (and very popular)
restaurants is also a market and a cafe.
Salvatore's Gourmet Market & Cafe opened in October 2004. The attractive
building was once a church, as seen by the beautiful stained glass
windows left in place as part of its unique decor. The restaurant
features an outdoor dining patio and a bright, spacious dining area. As
the name implies, diners can enjoy lunch or dinner, as well as browse
through the gourmet shop and deli.
Over 100 different wines are available for purchase - to enjoy while
dining or for take
home. Other items available include coffees, teas and jams, freshly
baked goods, salads, and over twenty varieties of beer. Steaks and
gourmet items are displayed in refrigerated
cases,
in addition to duck or wild boar sausage, cheese, spices and many other
items. Specialty teapots and coffee makers are also available.
For lunch, I enjoyed a huge "Flo Reuben" ($6.95), a thinly sliced corned
beef sandwich with pastrami and Swiss smothered in cole slaw on marbled
rye - it was delicious! My spouse chose the Roast Beef Wrap with spinach
and red wine vinaigrette.
The luncheon menu offers meal-size salads such as shrimp and crabmeat,
for $9.95. Pizzas range in price from $7-$9. A wide selection of burgers
and sandwiches is also available ($6.25 to $8.25), as well as homemade
soups. Dinner features such items as Steak Zanzibar, Chicken Kalamata or
Roast Lamb,
all
for under $20. For the hearty appetite, and if you have room, chocolate
cake or peach tart are among the desserts.
Breakfast is served from 8-11 AM, luncheon from 11 AM-4 PM, followed by
the dinner choices, and there is an extensive Sunday brunch available at
reasonable prices.
For a different eating experience, put Salvatore's Gourmet Market & Cafe
(located at 151 W. Highway 50 in Clermont) on your list of places to
visit!
