Many Delights Abound At The Farmers Market

A new attraction has been added to the downtown streets of Leesburg. It occurs every Saturday morning, when several streets are closed to traffic, a lot of visitors are strolling along Main Street, and music of all types can be heard coming from the Town Square.

Beginning October 15th 2005, Leesburg began their Saturday Morning Farmers Market, and it will run until April 22, 2006. Along the main street, visitors can purchase any number of items, including many types of arts and crafts, wearing apparel, antiques, along with a choice of various food items. One block to the north is Market Street, which is appropriately named. Visitors can purchase a large variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh bakery goods, and other specialty foods on this block. At the end of the block is the Town Square, where performers have the facilities to provide music, and there is plenty of room for visitors to bring their chairs and enjoy the day’s musical entertainment.

November 19th was a special day, because, in addition to the weekly festivities of the market, there was a Country Musicfest that provided the music for the day at the Town Square. The park was filled with visitors as Dietra Greene and her band provided country music for the morning hours. In the afternoon and evening, other well-known performers were scheduled to appear. At 6 PM, the Daisy Duke and Hottest Cowboy Contest was held, when Florida’s Hottest Cowgirls compete in their Daisy Dukes, Cowboy Boots and Hats, while the guys wear their Blue-Jeans – Cowboy Hats, Boots and Six-Pac Abs for prizes.

The town of Leesburg has undergone many improvements over the last few years as a result of the efforts of the Leesburg Partnership and the Leesburg Center for the Arts. The Partnership has assisted in the revitalization projects of Leesburg by hosting activities such as the Farmers Market and the Country Musicfest.

At this time of the year, the cooler temperatures both during the day and the evening attract visitors and residents alike, and make living in Central Florida very pleasurable.
