The Goblin Market

Back to Articles

Tucked away among lots of foliage on Dora Drawdy Lane in Mount Dora is The Goblin Market, a popular restaurant with both locals and visitors since it first opened ten years ago.

This restaurant gets its name from a 13-page poem written by Christina Rossetti, which tells about goblins tempting ladies to buy their wares in the market.

There are two small dining rooms on the first floor, lined with art and beautiful bookcases, reminiscent of dining in a cozy room at a friend’s home. Located off one of the dining areas, French doors lead you into a lovely garden courtyard with seating outside at tables with umbrellas surrounded by gorgeous plants. Goblin’s unique floor plan offers several choices of seating from inside to alfresco.

On the second floor, there is still another dining area with a full bar, comfortable couches, tables and chairs. We were told that frequent patrons, on a break from shopping, like to stop by for coffee and dessert, a glass of wine, or just kick back and soak up the charming atmosphere.

On our visit, we enjoyed a Swiss cheese and ham quiche served with fresh fruit and a very tasty potato-crusted grouper sandwich on a Kaiser roll. Other choices on the menu include daily specials, homemade soups, specialty salads and sandwiches.

The Goblin Market is open from Tuesday – Thursday from 11 AM to 9 PM and Fridays and Saturdays open until 10 PM, with a local musician playing blues and jazz. Sunday visitors can enjoy choices from the luncheon menu from noon until 4 PM.
