If
you ever want to get in touch with Henry Maguire, a resident of Royal
Highlands, the first place to look for him is on the Monarch Golf
Course. Henry enjoys golf so much that he plays an average of five times
a week. In fact, the community's well-maintained course is one of the
main reasons why Henry and his wife Priscilla chose to retire in Royal
Highlands.
Both Henry and Priscilla were born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts,
but lived in the town of Franklin for 36 years before coming to Central
Florida. They presently maintain a summer residence in Hampton Beach,
New Hampshire.
Henry was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical
Workers (IBEW), working as an electrician for the Local 103 for 35
years. Before retiring in December 2000, he worked on the Alaskan
pipeline for 13 months. In his spare time, Henry volunteered for the
Youth Baseball and Basketball Programs and held several positions with
the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. He also helped to organize Massachusetts'
first Girl's Softball Program in the early 80s.
Priscilla spent a few years at home raising the couple's three children,
and then returned to work as a supervisor of the Home Health Aid
Department for the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) in Franklin. After
12 years in this position, she became a Scrub Nurse in the operating
room at Boston's Faulkner Hospital, a position she held for 12 years.
During that time, she also volunteered as a softball coach for the
Girl's Softball Program, served as a volunteer in the local elementary
public schools, and was President of the CCD Program in St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Franklin.
The
Maguires are the parents of three children, all of whom live near the
Boston area. Richard is a Project Engineer in a Public Works Project,
Laurie is an Administrative Assistant for the Millipore Corp., and
Kenneth followed his dad's footsteps as an electrician and is a member
of the IBEW Local 103 in Franklin.
When not on the golf course, Henry enjoys gardening, while Priscilla
likes to cook, read, play bunco, exercise at water aquacize and plays an
occasional game of golf. Both Henry and Priscilla are members of the New
England Club and the Golf Country Club in the community.
The Maguires decided to retire to Central Florida because of the many
attractions that are located in the Orlando area, and they learned about
the various Pringle communities from an ad in the AARP Magazine. They
explored several communities, but upon entering Royal Highlands, they
were impressed with its attractive design. The "Welcome Home" sign at
the entrance left a lasting impression on Priscilla, and she felt that
they'd finally found the perfect place for their new retirement home.
It has been over three years since Henry and Priscilla moved into their
expanded Opal Model home, and they have become very involved with the
"social network" of neighbors and friends. "We are so fortunate to have
neighbors who come from many different places, and we love living here,"
said Priscilla. Henry likes that the golf course is very
"senior-friendly," and that it is kept in excellent condition. Both feel
that they made the right decision to build and settle in Royal
Highlands.
