What could be better than enjoying a nice seafood lunch on a deck located riverside, with temperatures in the 70s during the winter months? Well, that is what it is like if you decide to visit the Harbor Side Restaurant in Tavares.
This restaurant is located on the Dead River, off Highway 441, and is accessible by either auto or boat. It was opened by James Bronkhorst in October 2005 and offers a varied menu for either lunch or dinner. There is a long dock for tying up the boats or to enjoy a pleasant stroll after your meal. The restaurant itself features a large-sized outdoor patio, along with a separate bar and music area. There are two large aquariums filled with a variety of tropical fish (that are not on the menu!) where one may enjoy the view while dining.
For our visit, both my spouse and I decided on one of the day’s luncheon specials. I chose the scallop platter with hush puppies and homemade Harbor Fries, which tasted like fresh potato chips, and was a pleasant tasty surprise from the usual fries. This selection was $8.95, and we both opted for the salad bar for an additional charge. My spouse selected the Fish Platter that featured grouper fingers (and we didn’t know that grouper had fingers before this!), oysters, shrimp, scallops, plus the hush puppies for $10.95. Both entrees were fresh along with our tasty salads.
Harbor Side Restaurant is open daily from 11AM to10PM, and Sunday Brunch is served for $10.95 from 11:30AM to 3PM. On Fridays, they feature a buffet fish fry for $15.95 and the restaurant provides live music on Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as Sunday afternoons. Take-out is available, and Early Bird Specials are from 3PM to 6PM daily, which includes the salad bar and one side plus a beverage.
At the end of the dock is the paddleboat “Contessa”, which offers a 2-hour lunch or dinner cruise for groups of 40 or more, providing an opportunity to enjoy the meal while cruising along the Dead River and Lake Eustis.
Be sure to stop in at the Harbor Side Restaurant either by car or by boat, so that you can experience what it is like to enjoy a pleasant outdoor meal during Central Florida’s winter months.
