Those Who’ve Come Before You

For Bobby and Jean Poe, it took only one visit to Legacy of Leesburg before they decided to become a member of the community. They were looking for a community that had tennis courts, a large pool, and a gym so that they could keep themselves fit. Because of these facilities, Bobby can be found on the tennis court usually two to three times a week, and Jean visits the recreation center every day for daily exercise. She enjoys meeting with other ladies for group exercise using the tapes that are available.

Jean is a native Floridian, having been raised in Sanford, Florida. Bobby, however, was born in Corona, Alabama but moved to nearby Wildwood, Florida when he was 7 years old. His father was employed by the railroad and worked in this area for many years. Jean and Bobby met in high school, and made their home in Wildwood until 1989, when they moved to Lakeland.

While living in Wildwood, Jean managed a ladies boutique for 11 years. After that, she was employed by Georigo-Beverly Hills Perfume Company as a promoter of their products in department stores. Bobby began his career as a fireman on the railroads, and eventually became a locomotive engineer before retiring from the CSX Corp. in 1997.

Bobby and Jean enjoy visiting their daughter, Cherri, who resides in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Cherri is employed as a secretary to the Superintendent of the Rocky Mount District of the Assembly of God Church. Cherri and her husband have two children, a daughter named Lindsy and a son named Jeremy.

Jean has continued to develop her talent for painting pastel and acrylic paintings. The Poe’s Lancaster Model home is beautifully decorated, and Jean is proud to display many of the artwork she has done on both canvas and on furniture pieces. Jean also meets with the Arts and Crafts group at the Recreation Center, where residents meet each week to work on their individual projects and socialize at the same time. She is also a member of the Welcoming Committee, and she designs Get-Well cards that are posted in the Recreation Center so that other residents can sign the card for a fellow resident. Jean is a strong believer in good nutrition and keeping fit, so she likes to cook at home rather than frequent the many restaurants in the area.

When he is not on the tennis court, Bobby likes to involve himself in home improvement projects, such as woodworking or tiling areas around the house. On occasion, he uses the computer as an educational resource. Both Bobby and Jean take part in many of the activities that are planned at the Recreation Center, such as the covered dish dinner that is held each month.

The Poes serve as Guest Hosts, a program in which they are invited by a salesperson to meet with another couple that is considering retiring in a Pringle community. This provides an opportunity for new incoming people to become more familiar with the advantages of living in Central Florida.

If you ask Bobby and Jean what they like about the Legacy Community, you will hear such expressions as “a nice bunch of people”, “friendly atmosphere”, “enjoy getting together with neighbors”, and “plenty of activities to choose from”. Bobby indicated that the home and the community at Legacy is the best combination that he has ever experienced.
