The Pringle Difference

Back to Articles

We would like to start this article by saying "Thank You" to those of you who have called or written to ask questions about Florida retirement living. Your inquiries help us to understand your needs and concerns, and as much as is possible, we will try to answer some of your more commonly asked questions through articles like this.

In our last issue, we answered questions about living in and around Lake County. But many of you have also been asking for specifics with regard to what makes a Pringle Community different from others in the area.

Before we discuss some of the specifics, we'd just like to say that in general, we measure the success of our communities by the feedback we receive from the residents. And the response we hear most often is, "Our community feels like a small town - a place where we feel encouraged to get out and enjoy the freedoms of retirement with our neighbors.

As you can probably imagine, that doesn't happen by accident. It takes a lot of listening, planning, and attention to detail. Here are just a few of the things that make Pringle communities so unique:

1) BUILDING EXPERIENCE
The Pringle family has been in the business for more than 80 years in Central Florida. It all began when Frederick Pringle came from Chicago to Lake County in the early 1900's and purchased a parcel of land. It was his idea to develop home sites around the Silver Lake area, and to include citrus groves behind each home. The income realized from these groves would offset the cost of ownership. Many Midwesterners purchased these "mini-plantations" as self-sufficient winter residences. The Silver Lake Country Club was developed around 1920 with a nine-hole golf course. Frederick's son, Henry, became a prominent attorney in Central Florida and lived to be 96 years old. His son, George, earned both a law degree and a degree in engineering, and was employed in the aerospace industry for a number of years. George's second son, John, earned his degree in Computer Science and eventually partnered with his wife, Mary, and his father to form Pringle Development in 1982. At that time, they were the first developers in the area to create "Active Adult Communities" with full amenities and single homes.

2) RESIDENT-OWNED
All Pringle communities become "resident-owed communities" rather than Community Development Districts. Which means that Pringle residents have much more control over what happens in and to their community through a Board of Directors that is elected by the residents.

3) CUSTOM HOMES
Flexible design services allow Pringle homeowners to custom-design a home to meet their individual needs and desires. This allows you to start with floorplans from one of the model homes, then make any changes, or even design your own plans, as long as they meet required local building codes. Many other communities in this area use what are sometimes referred to as "Cookie Cutter Plans", which prohibit you from making any major design changes.

4) STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY
Pringle's Design Studio uses a Computer Assisted Design (CAD) program to help new homeowners view each room of their customized floorplans before construction begins. Residents in Royal Harbor and Legacy of Leesburg also enjoy the benefits of another form of technology; a community intranet called NeighborLinks. It provides information about community activities and events, and they can communicate with the recreation center directly from their home computers.

5) REPUTATION
As Central Florida continues to be developed, the Pringle name has become well-known and well-respected. Pringle Development has received many home builder awards over the years. They were the recipient of the 2003 NRS Award in Homeowner Satisfaction, Excellence in Class, and they were ranked 2nd nationwide in customer satisfaction among builders from 100-499 homes a year.

5) COMMUNITY SERVICE
On a personal level, both George and John have been strong supporters of community affairs. George is past president of the Leesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, has received several community service awards, and served as a pilot for the Angel Flight Southeast Program. He is also the founder of, and still active in the Arts Association of Lake and Sumter Counties. John has also received a number of service awards, and is on the board of directors for both Angel Flight and the Leesburg Area Chamber of Commerce. He is past president of two Lake County Leadership Associations and was Chairman of the Angel Flight for 5 years. Mary Pringle has been very active in the areas of political service and supports several local charities.

6) RED CARPET TREATMENT
When you visit any Pringle Community, you can expect the full Red Carpet Treatment. Friendly sales staff members are there to show you around the community, and a resident Ambassador, who actually lives in the community, will be happy to answer all of your questions and relay their personal experiences with regard to the community.

7) HELPFUL INFORMATION
At your request, Pringle Development will send you detailed information about living in Florida. You can also learn about their home construction techniques, request some floorplan designs, and read about each of their current communities. Their staff is always just a phone call away, and they will cheerfully do all that they can to answer your questions, and help you make arrangements to experience their Life Style Preview Program when you are ready. Feel free to call 1-800-325-4471.
