The power of music to induce romance certainly worked for Colin Stevens, a resident of Royal Harbor. Many years ago, he was interested in meeting a co-worker named Patricia. He decided to write and record a song entitled “Secret Obsession”. He sent the recording with a card to Patricia, and after sending a second original song called “Breathless”, they met and dated. The rest, as they say, is history and they are now a happily married couple living near the lighthouse in the Royal Harbor community.
Colin was born in Sommerset, England, and eventually settled in Seattle, Washington in the early 80’s where he was employed by The Boeing Co. as an Aircraft Design Engineer for a total of 19 years before retiring in 2004. He also became a U.S. Citizen during this time. Patricia has a degree in Commercial Interior Design, and met Colin when she joined Boeing. She was responsible for developing methods of improving efficiencies for all Aircraft Interior Manufacturing.
Colin enjoys playing his guitar, as well as writing and recording music, and has made several CD’s in his own home studio. His other leisure pastime is boating, and when the Stevens designed their Balmoral model home in Royal Harbor, they enlarged the garage area to accommodate their boat. Patricia enjoys singing, and believes in physical fitness by lifting weights and tap dancing at the community recreation center. Both Colin and Patricia walk at least one mile every day, and enjoy biking with the community bike club.
What prompted the Stevens to move across the country from Seattle was the desire for more sunshine and an area that was more affordable. After obtaining information over a 3-year period about other parts of the country, they agreed that Central Florida was the best place to settle. By searching the internet, they were attracted to Pringle Development’s concept of “Active Retirement Community” and they also discovered the excellent reputation that Pringle has acquired over the years. They made their final decision as they crossed over Lake Harris and saw the beautiful Royal Harbor community.
After living in Royal Harbor for more than a year, they are thrilled with their decision to build in the community. “There is a great social network of like-minded people, and we have fabulous neighbors, a long list of various activities, and we just love it here” said Patricia.
