The field of education has been very important to Mary Lindsay, a new resident who moved into Lakes of Mt. Dora at the end of last year. She has devoted her life towards helping both her students and other teachers develop the techniques of problem solving. Mary was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, but lived in Brownsville and Louisville before coming to Central Florida. After teaching English for one year in her home high school, Edmonson County, she moved to Louisville and taught biology and anatomy and physiology for 32 years at Pleasure Ridge Park High School. Besides teaching, she served as an Academic Competition Coordinator and as a coach for future problem-solving in her school. In addition, she was a State Trainer and Evaluator for the Kentucky Association for Academic Competition, and was instrumental in training teachers in the techniques of problem solving.
Mary’s retirement to Florida does not mean that she is inactive. For the last 5-6 years, Mary writes Futuristic Scenarios which encourage students to learn problem solving techniques. During her spare time, Mary reads and enjoys container gardening, as well as using the computer for research and contacting friends. She shares her Huntley model home with three cats she called “rescues” – Spot, Cocoa and Sara.
Mary’s brother, John Lindsay, was the person who introduced Lakes of Mt. Dora to Mary. John has been involved in the area of Real Estate for 32 years, the last 20 in Central Florida. He used to conduct weekly seminars in the area in which local builders were invited to speak about their communities. After a Pringle Development representative came to the first seminar, John was so impressed with their building techniques, that Pringle was invited back each week. “Pringle Development is a premier builder in Central Florida,” said John. At the present time, John is waiting for his own new home to be built in the same community as Mary. In addition, John’s wife’s sister and
her husband are also planning on becoming Lakes of Mt. Dora residents.
In the few months that Mary has lived in Lakes of Mt. Dora, she is enjoying the many waterways that are taking shape and the friendly neighbors that have already moved into their new homes. It won’t be long before her brother and sister-in-law will become some of her new neighbors.
