“Wouldn’t you like to ride in my beautiful, beautiful, balloon?”
That line from a popular song can be applied to an adventure that is available to Central Florida residents and visitors.
Rohr Balloons provides daily flights over the lakes and orange groves that make up much of Lake County. Since 1978, this company, based in Mount Dora, is one of the most experienced and diversified hot air balloon teams in the country, and every Rohr pilot holds an FAA commercial instructor license. They offer sunrise and sunset one-hour flights, weather permitting, and the balloons can reach heights of 3,000 feet or more.
Chuck Rohr is a minister as well as a licensed pilot, and on occasion, weddings have been performed high above the countryside in the flower-decorated balloon with a champagne toast. Balloon flights are also used for business banner advertising.
Chuck has won several awards in a number of competitions held throughout the country and he is also a qualified instructor in techniques used in hot air balloon competition. He began his interest in ballooning in 1968 and permanently opened the business ten years later. He estimates that he has taken well over 23,000 people up into the skies, some of whom were initially afraid of heights.
