“How Can I Ignore
the Boy Next Door?” is the opening line of a popular song, and it had
special meaning for Dan and Bonnie Taylor of Royal Harbor. That’s
because they met many years ago while they were next-door neighbors in
Homewood, Illinois. As they got to know each other better, they decided
to spend the rest of their lives together as husband and wife.
Bonnie was born in Chicago, but was raised in Homewood, while Dan grew
up in Bloomington, Illinois, and moved to Homewood after completing high
school. As a married couple, they lived in Glenwood, Illinois for about
5 years, but eventually moved back to Homewood because their superior
school system would benefit their son Scott. After 26 years, they decide
to move to Royal Harbor to enjoy their retirement years.
While living in Illinois, Dan worked in the computer department of the
Illinois Central Railroad, first as a computer operator and eventually
becoming the manager of one of the Data Processing Division. After 15
years with the railroad, he was employed by the Illinois Department of
Transportation in various positions in one of their field offices. He
worked for this Department for about 20 years. After retiring from
I.D.O.T., Dan worked part-time at the local Home Depot in Illinois, and
was happy to learn that he could transfer to the Home Depot branch here
in Leesburg.
Bonnie began her employment record by serving as a secretary,
administrative assistant, and eventually office manager for Jewel Food
Stores in Illinois. She transferred to R.R. Donnelly where she held
another secretarial position in their financial printing department. She
also served as a data administrator for a fire suppression firm before
retiring.
The Taylors son Scott, and his wife Laura, still live in Homewood.
Dan and Bonnie
have been residents of Royal Harbor for about six months. But they are
emptying their moving boxes at a leisurely pace... they want to make
sure that they are allowing enough time to enjoy some of their favorite
activities. Dan likes to putter around in the garage, especially working
with wood. He also likes swimming, billiards, and keeping busy at his
part time job in the millwork department at Home Depot. Bonnie is a
member of the Bear Club (Boggy Creek charity), the local Woman’s Club,
and volunteers at Faith Lutheran Church, by providing computer
assistance at home. When she can, she also enjoys reading and swimming.
Bonnie also expressed her gratitude for the “Gift of Life” program. She
received a kidney transplant when she was in need, and she stressed the
need for individuals to donate their organs so that others can receive
this wonderful gift of life.
The Taylors were introduced to Central Florida while visiting Bonnie’s
sister in nearby Clermont. After visiting many other communities, they
chose Royal Harbor because it sits on the shores of the beautiful Harris
Chain of Lakes. They also liked the style of homes in the community, and
the fact that Pringle Development is the only builder they found who was
willing to make custom changes during the design phase of building their
new home. They are settling into their new Huntley model home, and
they’re enjoying the benefits of active retirement living.
