LAKE EUSTIS MUSEUM OF ART

Back to Articles

Since 1995, the Lake Eustis Museum of Art has provided artistic opportunities to both adults and children in Eustis. The museum was originally located in a storefront building, but over the years, it has become a larger facility with a board of directors, an executive director, an active auxiliary called Friends of the Museum and a group of daily volunteers

The Executive Director, Ms. Jackie Houck, came to the museum in October 2007 and has been instrumental in developing and maintaining a number of programs at the Museum. Ms. Houck has a degree in Art History, and gained experience at the Orlando Museum of Art and the Cincinnati Art Museum. She hopes to develop long-term plans for identifying sponsors and promotion opportunities for upcoming art openings and artist demonstrations.

On the second Saturday of each month, Target Art allows families to enjoy free programs of art and entertainment, using materials donated by Target stores. At the present time, the Museum is featuring an art exhibit by Harold Garde entitled Sophisticated Spontaneity, which runs until May 18th. Mr. Garde is an accomplished artist and professor, who demonstrates his abstract impressionist background in his work.

From May 22nd until the middle of July, Judy Gilmer will feature her art work under the title of Ancient Rhythms/Modern Beat. Ms. Gilmer presents a beautiful dichotomy of old and new through carefully crafted kimono sculptures and monoprints. Other exhibits by local artists are planned in the future, as well as silent auctions and other fine art sales.
