BACKYARD BOYS BAR-B-QUE

Back to Articles

Barbecue has become very popular in Central Florida, and joining this trend is the Backyard Boys Bar-B-Que on Highway 441 in Mount Dora. This new restaurant opened where the former Dixie Shrimp House was located, and already they are enjoying a steady crowd for both lunch and dinner.

The new owner has many years of experience in the restaurant business and previously owned a smaller facility of the same name in Sanford, FL. He wanted to expand his business, so he purchased this location in November 2007, and plans to open another restaurant in Ocala in the near future.

Backyard Boys features many BBQ items such as ribs, pulled pork and smoked turkey, but also offers beef, chicken and seafood dishes. Soups and salads are made fresh daily, and there are a variety of sandwiches, salad entrees and weekday lunch specials.

Meats are offered for sale by the pound, and they also do quite a bit of catering. The BBQ sauces are their own, and can be purchased by the bottle. There are 8 large screen TVs in the main dining room for watching your favorite sporting event, as well as a separate area for private parties. They also have a large bar located near the entrance.

Cable TV also showed scenes from Mount Dora in two pictures, one of which was aired on HBO. The Break, a movie about tennis, was filmed in 1995. Breaking the Pack, a movie in which a murder is committed and the five friends responsible make a pact never to tell what happened, was completed in 2001.

The baby back ribs are very meaty and the special sauces provided at each table helps to explain why the Backyard Boys Bar-B-Que has already become very popular.
