It seems that there is a “new kid on the block” or rather, a new restaurant in Lake County. Finlay’s Restaurant opened its doors to the dining public March 8th on Hwy 441 in Eustis and in a short time has become a popular dining spot.
The proprietor of this new restaurant is Edgar Payne, who also owns The Gables and Sunshine Bakery, both located in Mount Dora. The name “Finlays” is a tribute to the two brothers who gave Edgar a start in the restaurant business back in his native Scotland.
Finlay’s offers a wide variety of fresh fish entrees, such as yellow fin tuna, Mahi Mahi or Maryland Crab Cakes with a lime-mayonnaise dressing. For red meat lovers, try the Apple Cider pork loin or Calypso Chicken with Island herbs, tomato and lime. Tournedos de Carmel – two 4 oz filets – with bourbon caramelized onions is another favorite. Each dinner entrée comes with a choice of pasta, the chef’s selection of starch or market vegetables.
The restaurant is attractive with warm dark colors inside, large windows throughout and the walls display oil paintings by a local award-winning artist, Laura Graham Cunningham. Adding to the ambience, are large colorful teardrop lights that are suspended from the high ceiling. The excellent food, especially the desserts, (warm Apple Strudel topped with vanilla bean ice cream, whipped cream and drizzled with caramel sauce) along with the décor provides the setting for a most enjoyable lunch or dinner.
