Last month more than 100 bicyclists from the Bike-A-Thon, sponsored by Central Florida Chapter of the Florida Planning and Zoning Association, attended the grand-opening of the 4-mile South Lake Trail.
After the ceremony the participants were encouraged to ride as far as they could on the trail because many of them were receiving donations based on the number of miles they could pedal. All proceeds from the Bike-A-Thon were for the National Center for Boundless Playgrounds, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities create specialized playgrounds, such as the one at Lake Idamere Park in Tavares.
The South Lake Trail connects the Lake Minneola Scenic and West Orange trails. This connection creates more than 30 miles of contiguous recreational trails between the counties of Lake and Orange. Back to Articles |
