Lake County . . . The Nature Lovers Paradise |
|
Lake County’s Natural Beauty Has Been One of Central Florida’s Best Kept
Secrets
Often referred to as the "Nature Lover’s
Paradise" , Lake County offers residents and visitors an escape from the
fast pace of modern living. Because there are more than 1,400 lakes in
the county, fishermen and pleasure-boaters have plenty of freshwater to
explore and enjoy. Many of these lakes are part of the Harris Chain of
Lakes, a series of interconnected waterways that allow boaters to travel
from one lake to another. If they desire, they can actually continue on
through other rivers and lakes until they reach the Florida coasts.
It is estimated that about 17% of Lake
County’s 722,000 acres is made up of lakes of all sizes and shapes. Lake
Harris, which is near the town of Leesburg, is the largest in the chain,
and its shores are lined with native plants and trees. Bass and
pan-fishing in the Harris Chain are considered excellent. Records show
that many bass over 13 pounds have been pulled in (a majority of which
have been caught on plastic worms).

Royal Harbor Yacht Club Anticipates Marina |
|
Since
Royal Harbor is located right on the shores of Lake Harris, one might
expect to find “boating” as a popular activity within the community.
Judging by the growing list of members in the newly-formed, Royal Harbor
Yacht Club, spending time on the water is a high priority for many
residents.
Thanks
to the efforts of Bill Byron and his wife Carol, the Yacht Club was
launched in January of this year. When they moved to Royal Harbor about
three years ago from Ohio, they brought with them over 35 years of
boating experience. Bill and Carol began by arranging informal trips
with other boating enthusiasts. Then, when the number of residents
interested in boating became large enough, they decided to form the
club. As a result, the first meeting of the Yacht Club was held just
five months ago, and the club has already grown to 81 members, making it
the largest club in Royal Harbor.

Around
The World (of Central Florida Cuisine) With The Culinary Couple
Recently, some friends of ours returned from a delightful ten-day river
cruise in China. Since they could eat nothing but Chinese food on the
ship, they were anxious to get back and try something a little
different. This piqued our thoughts about writing a review or "recap"
about some of the restaurants we’ve sampled here in Central Florida over
the last couple of years. We decided to compile a list of some of our
"favorites" - many of them offering ethnic or regional fare.
Our
choice for the best prime rib in the area is the Rusty Fox in Clermont.
Their special offers two 10.oz prime rib dinners, including a starch,
bread and salad or homemade soup, plus a bottle of house wine for under
$25. We have found it to be consistently flavorful and tender in the
many years we have dined there.

to be an important part of their lives. Don made several moves during
his career in the military and they spent a number of years living full
time in a motor home.
