is a community intranet system named NeighborLinks, which allows
participation in community news and activities from any computer with an
internet connection in the world.
The idea of a fully interactive,
internet-based community communications tool was conceived by John
Pringle in the early 1990’s. After a number of years of research and
development, the prototype system was launched for the building of Royal
Harbor, which was designed from the ground up as a community of the 21st
century. A number of interface options were improved and streamlined
based on resident recommendations and technological needs. The final
version, known as Pringle Development’s NeighborLinks system, was put
into wide use at Royal Harbor and then introduced to Legacy of Leesburg.
NeighborLinks is a high-speed
community-exclusive “intranet” that allows residents to communicate with
each other, participate in community functions, and plan activities
on-line. It only requires that you have a computer to log-on. For those
residents who do not own a computer, both Royal Harbor and Legacy have
facilities where any resident can log-on to the system. On NeighborLinks,
one can view community notices, examine community documents, check and
post to message boards, chat, join clubs, sign-up for and post
activities, keep abreast of daily events, and much more! Included are:
resident directories, voting and polling options and monthly
newsletters. In the case of Royal Harbor, there are webcams at various
locations throughout the community that allow residents to see what’s
going on without having to leave their homes.
NeighborLinks is a system that is unique to
the Pringle communities. As far as we can determine, there are no other
active adult communities in this area that offer a dedicated intranet
system that approaches this state-of-the art technology. The future is
very bright for both NeighborLinks and Pringle Development. Not only
will this wonderful technology be featured as a standard amenity in all
future communities, it will continue to be upgraded and improved upon.
