For
Erika and Don Carrado, the move to Legacy of Leesburg was quite a
change, as they went from city living in New York, to a quieter, more
rural community here in Central Florida.
Erika was born and raised in Manhattan and Don grew up in Brooklyn. They
lived in Brooklyn until making the move to Florida in October 2002. The
Carrados share their beautifully decorated Devonshire model home in
Legacy, with Erika’s mother, Anna Frank, and their 4 year old dachshund,
named Nathan.
Don owned and operated a Baskin and Robbins ice cream store in Brooklyn
before starting a cleaning service. Don’s Elite Cleaning maintained
professional offices and private homes for a total of 27 years. Erika’s
career went from fragrance sales, to being employed by an office temp
company, to working as a secretary for HIP Insurance for 11 years. She
has also had some training as an interior designer.
Erika’s mom Anna, who is now 91 years young, worked at several major
department stores, such as Ohrbach’s, which put her in close contact
with several movie stars. During the depression, she worked as an
apartment building superintendent. She has many interesting stories
about those difficult years.
Erika and Don have one daughter, Lisa, who is a secretary living in
Union, NJ, and Lisa has a daughter named Melissa.
Don currently works part-time in the bakery dept. at Publix in Leesburg.
He enjoys gardening, day trips with Erika, and watching history and game
show TV for relaxation. Erika uses her creative skills in doing
needlepoint, making costume jewelry, and decorating their home. She
tries to keep fit by walking daily, dancing with Don on a regular basis,
and playing Bocce. She is also learning one-stroke painting, which is
offered at the community Recreation Center. Anna keeps her mind sharp by
reading a lot of books; mostly biographies and historical novels.
Don and Erika learned about Central Florida by s earching
the Internet. They eventually became familiar with Pringle Development,
then decided to visit. They particularly liked the area’s rolling hills,
the un-crowded conditions, as compared to Florida’s coasts, and the
cooler weather of Central Florida.
“All the trees, and the overall natural look of Legacy, is what
attracted us.” said Erika. Don indicated that he found Pringle staff
members easy to deal with, all the way through the planning and
construction of their home. Both Erika and Don were pleased to find that
their neighbors are “down to earth”, friendly, and eager to socialize
with one another.
