Would
you ever expect to enjoy a hot lunch and free entertainment at a bakery?
The answer is "yes," if i's the Yalaha Bakery!
We decided to have lunch at the bakery after hearing about it from
neighbors. We'd passed by the large Bavarian-style building on many
occasions, but never made it a point to stop and try out their menu. We
were pleasantly surprised; aside from deli sandwiches served on freshly
baked bread, there was homemade cream of broccoli or vegetable soup on
the menu as well. We chose the day's special - roast pork with red
cabbage, potato salad and a large slice of rye, all for $6.95.
The
best part of our visit was browsing the bakery counter for a dessert.
Pastries, cookies, tortes and authentic German stollen are some of the
selections offered. Specialty breads free of preservatives, fat or
cholesterol are also popular. Focaccia, cranberry walnut, and Bavarian
pretzels are a few of the many breads made on premise. Patrons are often
seen leaving with large paper bags full of goodies to take home!
There are several small tables inside, and two large covered areas
outside for dining. From Sept.-May, the bakery offers free entertainment
on Saturdays from 10 AM to noon. Often it is folk music with fiddles,
guitars, banjos, and vocal entertainment. Visitors can enjoy coffee and
a danish, or bratwurst and beer while listening to foot-stomping tunes
or a favorite ballad. Guests are asked to bring a lawn chair on
Saturdays, as the place gets a
good
turnout.
The bakery is located on C.R. 48 in Yalaha. A smaller outlet store is in
nearby Lady Lake inside the United Southern Bank building (it is open
during banking hours).
For an enjoyable meal, free entertainment, and the "problem" of deciding
which delicious pastry to buy, stop in on your next visit to Yalaha!
