The Flying Tigers Warbird Restoration

How would you like to fly a North American
T-6 Harvard, one of the popular fighter-trainer airplanes used in WWII?
Or, if you are a fan of the popular TV show M.A.S.H., you might like to
fly a Bell 47 helicopter, similar to the ones seen in the show.
Adjacent to the Kissimmee Gateway Airport,
Warbird Adventures will allow you to either ride in or actually pilot
one of these planes with no prior flying experience. The choices in the
T-6 Harvard range from a 15-minute flight to the "Ultimate Experience" -
a 60-minute flight that allows you to practice various air maneuvers
several times. These planes earned the title "The Pilot Maker" by
today's pilots as well as pilots from days gone by, and have been
equipped with in-flight video so your experience can be recorded. The
Bell 47 rides also range from 15 minutes to the "MASH Experience,"
allowing you to fly low level, land off field, try an auto-rotation, and
land and take off by yourself.

Those Who've Come Before You... |
|
When John and Sue McKarns decided to build their retirement home in
Royal Harbor, it was important to them to design many of the home's
features to allow for any future handicaps that might occur. The Design
Department at Pringle Development was most helpful in making suggestions
and determining the McKarns' wishes as the home plans were drawn. Some
of these custom features include a large walk-in shower, safety bars,
wider doorways, French doors, elevated dishwasher, elevated clothes
washer and dryer, lever-type door handles and many other features that
would make life easier.
The location of their Hilton Head model home allows them to view Little
Lake Harris, and the addition of a second floor over part of the home
enhances the lake view.

Royal Harbor's Mah Jongg Club |
|
If you
visit the card room in the Recreation Center at Royal Harbor on Monday
evenings or Thursday afternoons, you will see several residents sitting
at the card tables. In front of each player is a rack filled with
unusual Chinese characters in several colors, along with several "walls"
of tiles in front of each player.
For
those familiar with the game called Mah Jongg, this setting is not
unusual, but for the newcomer to the game, it looks more difficult than
dominoes. However, several Royal Harbor residents have joined the Mah
Jongg club that was formed for the purpose of playing this interesting
game and providing an opportunity for newcomers to learn how to enjoy
playing it.

The Culinary Couple: The Yalaha Country Bakery |
|
Would you ever expect to enjoy a hot lunch and free entertainment at a
bakery? The answer is "yes," if it's the Yalaha Bakery!
We decided to have lunch at the bakery after hearing about it from
neighbors. We'd passed by the large Bavarian-style building on many
occasions, but never made it a point to stop and try out their menu. We
were pleasantly surprised; aside from deli sandwiches served on freshly
baked bread, there was homemade cream of broccoli or vegetable soup on
the menu as well. We chose the day's special - roast pork with red
cabbage, potato salad and a large slice of rye, all for $6.95.
