There are many articles being written today supporting the importance of not only staying physically fit... but mentally fit as well. The term “brain games” has become very popular referring to crossword puzzles, chess, all sorts of card games, and the newest numbers mind game, Sudoku, all that effectively challenge our aging brain cells.
Bob Gatto and his wife, Diane, are retirees from Brooklyn, NY. Bob retired from Consolidated Edison after 35 years of service, the last 10 of those years as Supervisor for the Borough of Brooklyn. During his travels throughout the Borough, he noticed dozens of chess games going on in Washington Square Park in Manhattan... and it wasn’t just retirees playing... all ages that found time to indulge in the game.
He became hooked on the game 25 years ago and now as a Legacy of Leesburg resident, is interested in organizing a Chess Club in the community with an ultimate goal of competitive tournaments between other Pringle communities. “The more you play the better you get at the game”, Bob said. Beginners are encouraged to obtain a copy of “Bobbie Fisher Teaches Chess”, an excellent guide written by one of the greatest chess players.
The Activity Calendars at all Pringle communities are scheduled with dozens of “brain game” opportunities... opportunities to have fun... to learn new games... to make new friends.
