The temperatures may be a little warmer this
time of the year, but there are all sorts of indoor and outdoor
activities planned for the upcoming summer months.
To start off the month of July, there are
several events scheduled for the Fourth of July. Mt. Dora will celebrate
the 4th with a parade and fireworks, and a Kids Fest in the afternoon at
Gilbert Park. A Jazz Fest will take place at the historic Lakeside Inn
on the same day. At Uncle Donald’s Farm in Lady Lake, a Parade of
Animals Festival will include hayrides, pony rides, goat milking and a
reptile program. Eustis will have their share of celebrating with their
Downtown Street Party on July 5th, featuring live entertainment,
displays and kids activities, as well as their own fireworks display.
Live music is always enjoyable, especially
when it is held outdoors during the summer months. The Lakeridge Winery
will hold their Summer Music Series on Saturday afternoons throughout
July and August. The Central Florida Youth Orchestra, Lake-Sumter
Community College, and the Leesburg Parks Department sponsor two-week
day camps during July where students have an opportunity to display
their musical talents.
On July 10th, nature lovers can visit the
Trout Lake Nature Center in Eustis to learn about Florida seashells and
seashore creatures during the evening hours.
For the Antique lover, Renninger’s will hold
their popular Antique Fair on the July 18th weekend and the August 16th
weekend. More than 400 antiques and collectibles dealers, some located
in large, air-conditioned buildings and others under covered pavilions,
will offer their wares. Many people arrive at the 7:30 am opening to
explore the outdoor items, then finish their shopping in the
air-conditioned building later in the day.
Theatre goers will have a wide variety of
entertainment from which to choose over the summer months. The Melon
Patch Theatre in downtown Leesburg opens its new season with “Little
Shop of Horrors” during the last weekend in July and the first two
weekends of August. The Mt. Dora Theatre is already in the middle of
their “Triple Scoop Delight”, a series of three plays during the summer:
“Black Comedy”, a very funny play which will run until July 6th, “All I
really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten”, which runs from July
11-27, and “A Comedy of Errors”, which runs from Aug 1-17. The Bay
Street Players in Eustis will present “The Secret Garden” during the
second half of July.
If you are in the area in August, you might
like to see the tribute to the Kennedy Family on display at the House of
Presidents in Clermont. On the weekends of August, they will present
special displays honoring the birthdays of some of the First Ladies of
our country. The Moonlight Players will present “The Wizard of Oz” at
the Moonlight Warehouse Theatre in Clermont during most of the month.
The Clermont Aquathon on August 3rd will feature male and female
competitions at the National Training Center.
Whether it’s live music, theatre, arts and
crafts, sporting events, nature walks, or festivals, there is never a
shortage of things to do in Central Florida. We hope that you’ll join us
as we make plans to take in a little summertime fun!
