Those Who've Come Before You

“We just feel that when we came here to settle, we landed in the right place.” That was a recent comment made by Janet Cicatiello, a resident of Royal Harbor who lives near the community Lighthouse with her husband Guy and their 13 year old poodle, Nicky. Janet went on to say that she and her husband feel very fortunate to live in a community that has such a wonderful setting, excellent landscaping and one of the county’s most beautiful chain of lakes. Both Guy and Janet were born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. They met at the corner soda shop while in high school, and eventually made their relationship permanent.

Guy was in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years in the mid 60’s. He worked in the Supply Department, and spent some of this time in Taiwan. After serving his country, he was employed by the Department of Veteran Affairs (formerly the VA) for 31 years, as a lead computer operator. Janet worked at the Federal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia for 28 years as an accounting analyst. She was involved with all aspects of the bank’s functions, including closings and the transferring of funds to the Treasury. She is still working full time for Florida Choice Bank in Mt. Dora, using her accounting experience in the operations department.

Guy keeps his mind active by reading novels about Civil War history, and he tries to keep physically fit by playing ping-pong, bocce and swimming at the community’s Recreation Center. He also helps out when needed at the Rec Center, and could be considered the “block helper”, since he assists his neighbors whenever he can. Janet’s free time is limited, because of her job. However, during her free time, she enjoys gardening, photography, reading fiction novels, walking and swimming. Both Guy and Janet also enjoy visiting Disney’s EPCOT Center.

When it was time for the Cicatiellos to leave Philadelphia, they obtained copies of the “Where to Retire” magazine and requested literature about various communities in Central Florida. They were originally under the impression that Florida was flat, but were pleased to learn that the Leesburg area has rolling hills, lots of trees, is less crowded, and is of course, quite a bit warmer in the winter. They started looking in the Ocala area and eventually ended up at Pringle. One visit to Royal Harbor was enough to convince them that it was just what they were looking for.

Ever since Janet and Guy closed on their Catamaran model home in January 2002, they have developed many new friendships. “Our neighbors are just like family”, said Janet. As a matter of fact, Janet’s sister came from Philadelphia for a visit, then decided to purchase a nearby lot for herself. She hopes to build within the next year or two, so she can live close to her sister.

The best way to see what impressed the Cicatiellos is to come down and visit. Basic information is available on the web or by mail, but nothing tells the whole story like a personal visit.
