The Culinary Couple

Buffet meals have become very popular in the last few years, because it allows the customer to pick and choose whatever they wish, and to “go back for more” of those items that they enjoy the most. Every town has its favorite buffet, and Mt. Dora is no exception.

Located close to downtown Mt. Dora is Hunts End Restaurant, a popular restaurant that has attracted many diners over the years. It is housed in a building that is over 60 years old, but it has been refurbished to be more accommodating. It is owned and operated by Richard Marinacci, whose family has been in the restaurant business since 1967. The uniqueness of the building is what attracted Richard. His Mom did most of the baking and his Dad supervised the operation. David Russel (also known as “Diamond”) serves as Head Chef.

Hunts End sits in a wooded area on N. Highland St. It features a beautiful beamed raised ceiling, large picture windows offering a pleasant view, and it is decorated with a fox-hunt theme. Set up as an “all you can eat” buffet, they offer three meals a day Đ breakfast from 7-10 AM for $2.99, lunch from 11AM-3: 30 PM for $6.49, and dinner from 4-8 PM (4-9PM on Fri. and Sat.) for $9.49. On Sundays, breakfast is served the same hours, but dinner is available from 11AM-8PM. These prices include soups, salad bar, entrees, vegetables and even desserts. Beverages, including beer and wine are extra.

On our dinner visit, we tried the two soups, which vary each day. I chose a very hearty beef vegetable soup, while my spouse opted for broccoli cheese. Both were very tasty. The main entrees included a baked fish, chicken, both fried and baked, fresh roasted turkey, leg of lamb, roast pork and roast beef. Corn bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, and vegetables.

Hunts End “all you can eat” policy allows diners with a hearty appetite to go back for more meat after the initial serving, a feature that many buffets do not include.

Desserts included a choice of red velvet cake, coconut cake, pie and bread pudding.

James Pugh, the General Manager at Hunts End, explained their senior discount of 10% off, and how they distribute a card, which is punched after each visit. Coupons are provided weekly in the local newspaper, and they are working on the development of a Senior Value Card, that can be used in conjunction with coupons.

And there are no holidays at Hunts End - they are open and serving their customers 365 days a year!
