Charlie
and Jean Axtell, who have been residents at Legacy of Leesburg for
almost five years, love the "great outdoors" and enjoy visiting parks,
beaches and other areas where nature has expressed its beauty.
The Axtells decided to settle in Legacy because of the well-planned lots
that demonstrate the community's nature theme. They were also pleased by
the excellent choice of lots, the ability to customize the home during
the design phase of construction, and the availability of building a
block and stucco home. Charlie described how the floorplans were not
"chopped up" little rooms, but spacious rooms that gave the feeling of
openness. For this reason, the Axtells made very few changes to the
original house plans, even though they had the option to do so.
Charlie
was born in Deep River, Iowa, and Jean was born in Montezuma, Iowa.
Charlie spent most of his working years at Valley High School in Des
Moines as a counselor and later as an Assistant Principal. Jean was a
Claims Analyst for Travelers Insurance for 14 years. She switched to
National Chiropractic Mutual Insurance for three years before moving to
Florida. They have two sons: Mark is employed by Principal Financial of
Iowa, and has two children; Todd works for Humana in Kentucky and is the
father of three.
Charlie and Jean were instrumental in helping to establish a number of
community activities at Legacy. Charlie was the original Chairman of the
Disaster Preparedness Committee, as well as the Neighborhood Watch
Program. During his spare time, he enjoys a round of golf two or three
times a week, pickleball, bridge, and gardening, and serves as a bingo
caller. Jean helped form the Welcoming Committee, and enjoys bocce,
bridge, reading historical fiction, and an occasional swim at the large
community pool. The Axtells take frequent trips to the many state parks
that can be found in the area.
Since
Charlie worked in the school system, he and Jean had the opportunity
during spring and summer breaks to explore many areas for building their
retirement home. They checked out Arizona and Texas, but felt more
comfortable being closer to the beach areas that are found on the coasts
of Florida. In considering the heavy coastal traffic, they both decided
that Central Florida would best suit their needs.
As residents of Legacy of Leesburg, they are very pleased with their
decision, and feel that the Pringle organization "stands by their
product." "The people in Legacy are friendly and very sociable," said
Charlie. "We are very happy with the choice that we made when we decided
to settle here at Legacy of Leesburg."
