It took only one visit to Legacy of Leesburg before Bob and Melinda Joy Miller decided to become residents. After visiting friends in Legacy, they knew, “this is just what we are looking for”.
Bob and Melinda Joy are Pennsylvanians; Bob was born in Downingtown and Melinda Joy in Reading. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Bob and Melinda Joy lived in other areas of PA and VA before coming to Central Florida; coincidentally, they lived near Leesburg, VA, before moving to Leesburg, FL.
Bob was employed in the area of Administration for Burroughs Corp., GE and Sperry, and Lockheed Martin, completing a total of almost 50 years before retiring. Melinda Joy was employed by the Corcoran Art Gallery in Washington, D.C., and then worked as a secretary in New York City. She became licensed as a Therapist and provided both occupational and message therapy for several years.
In 1991, Melinda Joy founded the Shambhalla Shui Institute, in which she draws on over 20 years of involvement with Feng Shui, which is the psychological pursuit of how people are affected by their environment. It seeks to bring the serenity, balance and harmony of a Japanese garden into the home to enhance relationships, promote rest and give a sense of adventure and happiness. (Their daughter, Kim Colwell, is the West Coast Director of Shambhalla in
Los Angeles.)
The Millers have been Legacy residents for about two years, and they have become active both in and out of the community. Bob is the Lead Narrative at the Unity by the Lakes Church in Mt. Dora, and enjoys playing softball, pickle ball and on occasion, golf.
Melinda Joy continues to direct the Shambhalla Shui Institute, is
President of the Legacy Garden Club, assists with the Leesburg Saturday Farmers Market, and is a Consultant for Lake Eustis Museum of Art, as well as Director of First Night for Lake County. She has been appointed Director of the Gold Networking Group.
Bob and Melinda Joy were attracted to Legacy of Leesburg because of the overall layout of the community, as well as the beautiful nature trails. They were also impressed by the friendliness of the residents when they first visited Legacy. They are very happy that their friends, encouraged them to visit and check out what Legacy had to offer. As you can see, they are a VERY ACTIVE couple, enjoying life at Legacy!
