LEESBURG’S NEW LIBRARY

The official Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the new Leesburg Public Library was held June 28th. The library is located on Main Street with plenty of parking available in the new covered parking garage.

There are about 140,000 items in the new 41,971 square-foot facility, including books, an extensive collection of Large Print, Audio books, both tape and CD, Videos/DVDs, puzzles, music CDs as well as local and national newspapers. As part of the Lake County system, there is access to all county libraries (13) through an on-line catalog, which provides access to more than 450,000 items.

Some of the features of the Leesburg Library include internet access with over 50 public computers, an expanded Genealogy area with assistance, on-line research databases, CCTV Magnifier/Reader, wireless internet access and many educational and informational programs for adults. A new feature is the self-checkout stations at the Main Desk.

During the opening ceremonies, library tours were conducted every 15 minutes throughout the day. Rick Reed, Director of the Heritage Museum and author of the newly-published Leesburg Sesquicentennial book, was present to autograph copies of his book.
