Why do customers say Luigi's has the best food ANYWHERE? The credo of Luigi's chef Maria Didonado is "Make good food, good portions, good quality. If you cheapen your food, you don't fool your guests, you only fool yourself."Maria came from Naples, Italy in 1968, bringing her recipes along as she opened Didonato's [now Mt. Dora Pizza]. This became a training ground for relatives to open restaurants of their own.
Maria and Pasquale Falgore co-founded Luigi's, which was named after Pasquale's father and first son. Concetta Delverme, a chef at Luigi's for ten years, opened Capri's in Clermont with her husband Edmundo, and Maria and Pasquale Falgore. A son, Stefano, has been with Luigi's for six years.
Luigi's menu offers most of the classic items found in Italian restaurants, in-cluding pizzas, subs, calzones, soups and salads. House specialties include Chicken Cacciatore, Flounder al Forno or Shrimp Scampi for about $12. Lunch specials are about $6. Classic dishes average $10, and there are about 25 items from which to choose. Beer, wine and desserts complete the menu.
The restaurant boasts beautiful hand-painted murals of Italian scenery, including one of Concetta and Edmundo's home in Southern Italy. Murals are also painted on the building's exterior.
This is a clean, pleasant, family business where one may go to enjoy home cooking at reasonable prices. Luigi's was voted "Best Italian Restaurant in 2004"by Lake Today magazine.
Luigi's, located at 1600 S. Bay St. in Eustis, is open daily - Sunday to Thursday from 11AM - 9PM, and until 10PM on Friday and Saturday.
Catering and delivery are available, as well as a separate drive-thru building where one may purchase frozen entrees to take home or ready-to-eat items. The drive-thru is located at 20 W. Taylor St. [behind the restaurant]. Mangia!!!!
