A few of the Highland Lakes residents decided they would like to assist children and families that were afflicted by life threatening situations or illness. From that desire, High Hopes of Highland Lakes, Inc. was formed and the group has been instrumental in carrying out the goal of helping others.
For example, a cerebral palsy young boy was in need of a walk-about for mobility, and another young boy needed a handicap ramp for his wheelchair, as well as toys to develop his dexterity and coordination. Thanks to the fun-raising activities of High Hopes, these items were provided. They also deliver food baskets at Thanksgiving and Easter and gifts at Christmas to children and families that are less fortunate. With the help of other volunteers, High Hopes delivered 125 quilts to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office that will be used by children in crises, such as home fires, auto accidents, etc.
These projects are funded by several activities, such as selling donated items, spaghetti dinners, selling gourmet dog biscuits at the local Publix store, and community pancake breakfasts. They even held a Highland Lakes Beauty Pageant (that earned almost $8,000) and a Mock Shotgun Wedding, with all male residents providing both funds and fun!
As an approved charity, all monies are used to help others and the residents in the group are all volunteers. It is one of the ways by which Pringle community residents can help others that are less fortunate.
