Those Who've Come Before You...Pringle Development Residents Dick & Claire Dobbs

Back to Articles

Protection of the environment was a major concern for Dick Dobbs while employed as a Research Chemist for the EPA for 33 years before retiring to a Pringle community with his wife, Claire. He was the Chief of Biosystems Development, and was in charge of several programs related to the control of toxic chemicals. In addition, he served as Director of the Gulf Coast Hazardous Substances Research Center, and was involved with over 100 projects in nine universities. Dick also served as an Adjunct Professor at LaMar University's Chemical Engineering Department, where he taught exchange students from Russia, Germany and other countries.

Claire had a full-time job raising the Dobb's three children. She also assisted in the education of physically and mentally challenged students in the West Clermont School District, a position she held for ten years. Dick was born in West Virginia, and Claire was born in Canton, Ohio. They met at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, and Beaumont, Texas before arriving to Central Florida.

They have two daughters - Dora, who lives in Cincinnati and who is a Surgeon's Assistant at Mercy Hospital, and Julie, who lives in nearby Apopka, Florida, and has a daughter. The Dobbs' son, David, is a Computer Specialist in San Francisco.

As a retiree, Dick enjoys fishing, gardening, cooking and playing cards. He is the Vice-President of the Trustees Committee at Tavares Methodist Church, and he attends many of the community activities with Claire. Claire is a member of the Bridge Club and the Red Hat Society, as well as the Women's Group at United Methodist .

One of the reasons the Dobbs decided to live in Central Florida was to be near their daughter Julie and grand-daughter Kalyn.Claire's brother, who is a Property Developer in Southern Florida, recommended a Pringle home. After researching the Pringle reputation, he was very impressed by the friendliness of the Pringle staff in assisting potential residents. He also found that the Pringle organization provides a quality community for retirees, with high quality materials and overall construction, and that the property values of a Pringle home will continue to increase over the years.

"There is a lot to offer here for the residents,' said Dick. "In the last three years that we have been living here, we have really enjoyed being members of a Pringle community. It has a good social environment, and there is always some type of activity going on for the residents to take part in. Dick and Claire also enjoyed receiving the series of e-mail photographs of their new home as it was being constructed. This allowed them to see the home as it developed from slab to completion.
