The Culinary Couple: Louie's Outstanding Cafe

Back to Articles

When a restaurant opens its doors every day for many years, it is certain that it must be providing good food and good service. Louie's Outstanding Cafe is one of those local restaurants that has been a mainstay on Route 27 in Leesburg for over a decade.

As you enter the brick building that houses Louie's restaurant, you will see hundreds of photographs covering the entrance walls. These are photos of many of the loyal patrons that have frequented the restaurant over the years. In the dining area itself, there are more photographs located near the booths that line the walls. Above the bar area, there are several model ship displays, including battleships and destroyers. Large murals also line the back wall, and a large TV allows diners to "watch the gameÓ as they enjoy their meal. The center of the dining area has picnic-type benches for families or larger groups. The restaurant's large bar area provides ample space for diners to enjoy a drink or an appetizer before the main course is served.

The menu consists of many seafood choices, following the nautical theme of the restaurant. On the evening that we visited for dinner, each of us selected items from the specials that cost $7.98 each. One of us chose the broiled grouper and the other decided on an 8-oz. New York strip steak. Both of these choices were served with a salad, Greek potatoes, fresh string beans mixed with tomatoes, and garlic bread. Other specials for the same price includes such items as shrimp, scallops, frog legs, clams, gator tail, snow crab or oysters, and each special includes the Greek potatoes, string beans and garlic bread. A dinner of three lobster tails for the hearty appetite is $15.95, but most other items on the menu cost less.

For the non-seafood lover, a generous selection of hamburgers, chicken wings and steaks are on the menu. For the lighter appetite, a selection of soup and sandwiches are also available.

Happy Hour at Louie's Outstanding Cafe is from 3-7 PM on Mondays through Thursdays, and there is a children's menu with items priced at $4.95 to accommodate families. From October to May, lunch is served from 11 AM to 3 PM, and the rest of the time, dinner hours are Monday through Saturday from 3 PM to 10 PM. The restaurant is located at 2009 N. Citrus Blvd at the northern edge of Leesburg. [end]
