Local residents have an excellent source when it comes to learning about horticulture. The University of Florida Lake County Extension provides monthly educational programs to assist homeowners with landscaping plans and problems.
Earlier this year, seminars were held dealing with Residential Lawn Care, Landscape Design, Adding Color to Your Landscape, and more than one workshop dealing with information on New Residents Landscaping. A plant sale in October, Florida Winter Landscaping Workshop and a Citrus Festival will close out the calendar year.
Adjacent to this facility is Discovery Gardens, an area that demonstrates many of the plants that can be grown successfully in our Florida climate.
Homeowners with specific problems are encouraged to visit the Plant Clinic weekdays for a one-on-one discussion with Master Gardeners. These highly-trained volunteers will assist with diagnosing and recommending solutions to horticultural problems. They are located at 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares, FL 32778 – (352) 343-4101.
