KEEPING FIT & HEALTHY

1) STAY ACTIVE – Use the stairs instead of the elevator, take a short walk and explore your neighborhood, park at the back of the parking lot, do some stretching during the TV commercials (not going to the refrigerator to get snacks!), find ways to move those muscles. These exercises improve cardiovascular, decrease hypertension and lower high blood pressure.

2) PILATES – a body-conditioning regiment that focuses on body form and muscle control. It helps to build body strength, flexibility and coordination... best done with the guidance of an instructor.

I REMEMBER WHEN …

  • Gas prices were $.33 a gallon, and you could fill your tank for less than $6.

  • My Dad bought a kit to build a television set in a wooden cabinet, and all the neighbor’s kids came in to watch “Captain Video”.

  • We could buy a cherry coke at a soda fountain for 5 cents, followed by a candy bar for another 5 cents.

  • My first allowance was 35 cents, but was raised to 70 cents due to inflation.

  • An overnight stay in a motel was $6, plus one dollar for each additional person.

  • The price for staying in a hotel in Disney’s Magic Kingdom was an incredible $50 a night.

  • When you went on a trip, you had to be sure that you had enough cash in your wallet to get home.

  • You had to have enough money ahead of time to make the trip.

  • I had to wait in a long line at the bank to cash my check.

  • If you misbehaved in school, you were scolded by the teacher, possibly the Principal, and again when you got home.

  • My parents told me I have to come home when the street lights went on.

  • My two brothers and our parents sat around the dinner table every night as a family to discuss the day’s events.

Do you remember when?

Items are made to order to ensure quality dining...even their water is triple-filtered and passed through reverse osmosis for purity.

The luncheon menu has a wide variety of items including quiches, wraps, entrée salads, flat bread pizza, soups, sandwiches and pasta. For dinner, selections include duck, filet mignon, chicken dishes or fresh catch of the day and wonderful “special” desserts to complete the meal.
