Calling
for a fire engine or an ambulance, visiting the dentist, and paying
insurance premiums are things we'd rather do without. But when the time
comes to put out a house fire or call for medical help, or get rid of an
aching tooth, we are very glad these services are there.
We recently had a situation which required medical attention. While
enjoying Labor Day weekend with family members, my wife made a wrong
step and injured her foot. It began to swell and bruise, so we decided
to visit the emergency room at Leesburg Regional Medical Center (LRMC).
There were very few people in the triage area when we arrived. We had to
wait for a while, but only because two other emergencies needed quicker
attention, a young girl with her arm in a sling who seemed to be
in great pain, and a young family with a small baby that needed help.
After completing the necessary paperwork, we were taken to a treatment
room, where my wife received excellent care. Four specialists came in,
including an admitting clerk, a physician's assistant, and an x-ray
technician. Each one was professional and friendly. The x-ray showed
that she had fractured the metatarsal bone (bone behind the smallest
toe), requiring a splint on her leg and foot. After her leg was wrapped
up, my wife was helped into a wheelchair and escorted out to the car.
This is just one example of the many excellent services LRMC provides to
the Central Florida area. It has been listed as one of the top hospitals
in the country because of the quality and number of services available;
everything from Allergies to the Wellness Center is included in the more
than 60 areas of specialization. Across the street from the hospital is
the Medical Plaza, where dozens of specialists offer treatment for
almost any medical condition.
Let's face it, when our cars begin to age, we make more frequent trips
to the shop for repairs. As seniors, we need to live near excellent
hospital facilities, why not live near one of the best in the
country? LRMC is close to Legacy of Leesburg and Royal Highlands, and
Tavares has the newly completed Florida Hospital Waterman, which is
close to Royal Harbor.
