Those who enjoy a bit of nostalgia of a by-gone era will enjoy the ambience and dining experience at the “Beauclaire” located inside the Lakeside Inn.
This historic Inn is located on the shores of Lake Beauclaire in Mount Dora with 88 guest rooms and suites and an outdoor pool. It was built in 1883 and continued to expand well into the 1930s. It was a popular retreat for travelers to enjoy the scenery, birds and wildlife as well as good food. In need of respite, President Calvin Coolidge and his wife spent the winter there after his term was completed at the White House. Singers and performances of all types filled the bill for local entertainment.
The Beauclaire is an elegant dining room with expansive large windows that afford an excellent view of the lush landscaping and the lake beyond the pool area. My spouse and I enjoyed lunching there by trying the homemade chicken pot pie and grilled fresh salmon over fresh greens. The restaurant features various fresh seafood choices, steaks, and chicken dishes. Lobster Bisque in a sourdough bowl, with sherry on the side seemed to be a popular choice during our visit. There are daily specials...a catch of the day, a Quiche served with fresh fruit, and a pasta entree. Full bar service is available as well as wines by the glass or bottle and a selection of International teas.
The Lakeside Inn has a separate Tremaine Lounge and a well-appointed lobby with comfortable seating. On the day we visited several people were playing bridge in the lobby area after finishing their lunch at the “Beauclaire”.
For a short step back in time, lunch or dinner at the “Beauclaire” gives you a chance to enjoy a bit of Florida’s early history and a place to reminisce and return to another time!
