Partly cloudy skies and pleasant breezes helped to insure the success of a very special event, Breast Cancer Awareness Event, recently at the Gator Harley-Davidson dealership on Highway 441 in Leesburg.
There were a variety of activities to attract both children and adults of all ages. The Malik family, owners of the Harley-Davidson dealership, wanted to hold an event to demonstrate how breast cancer has affected so many lives. Part of the activities was a show of support for Laurie K., a Pringle employee and mother of two young children undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. A 33 mile bike run and scavenger hunt kicked off the day with registration at Pringle headquarters in Eustis. The route included six stops and everyone checked in at Gator Harley-Davidson around noon. Most of the volunteers working the booths and activities during the six-hour event wore pink T-shirts that read “Show Your Love for Laurie K” with a Ribbon symbolizing the fight against breast cancer.
Vic’s Embers and The Maine Thang provided food services. Kathy Jo and the Bluzification Band performed on the bandstand…and they Rocked! There were a variety of games for the kids, silent auction, raffle items and several booths provided opportunities for donations. At 3 PM, items donated by individuals, local businesses and Pringle vendors were auctioned, raising over $12,000 to help Laurie in her fight and 5% of Gator Harley-Davidson’s apparel sales for the day were donated to Breast Cancer Research. (They will continue to take donations all month.)
We (Gator Harley-Davidson, Pringle Development, Breast Cancer Society and Laurie K) thank everyone for their generosity and support of the event. A special thank you to the Malik family for allowing us to “tag along” on their Breast Cancer Event and to Lori Judkins of Awesome Home Theatre for her 200% support. The dollars raised would not have been possible without ALL OF YOU.
