Those Who've Come Before You...

Legacy of Leesburg residents Bob and Barbara Doak have a special interest in the field of telecommunications. That is because Bob was employed in this area for 37 years, and Barbara for 31 years.

Bob was born in Kokomo, Indiana, and Barbara in Indianapolis. They met while working for Indiana Bell, and then both worked for AT&T until their retirement.

The Doaks raised four children Ð three sons who live in Georgia, and a daughter who lives in Virginia. The first son, Mike, is a technician for AT&T. Patrick works for Six Continents Hotels, and Mark is a Systems Manager for United Distributors. Their daughter is a Tax Attorney.

The Doak's interest in Central Florida began when they visited Bob's brother, who has lived in the Leesburg area since 1987. Bob and Barbara lived in Atlanta just before coming to Legacy, so they made frequent visits to Leesburg and became attracted to the area. They realized that Central Florida is close, but not too close, to Orlando attractions, as well as either coast. Bob's sister lived in Winter Haven, which presented another reason for visiting this area (his sister and her husband are now residents of Legacy). Bob and Barbara checked out other communities, but after seeing the entrance to Legacy, they decided to stop in and see what Legacy had to offer. They were especially attracted to the pool area, the nature trails and the park that encompasses the community. After touring several of the model homes, they purchased the Charleston.

Bob and Barbara moved into their new home in March 2002, and soon became involved in community activities. Bob enjoys playing softball about four times a week and an occasional round of golf. He has chaired the Activities committee for two years and likes to read adventure and spy novels when time permits. Barbara enjoys coordinating community events, such as potluck socials, and is currently taking cake-decorating courses so that she can decorate the cakes used for Legacy's anniversary parties. She has also just completed helping to publish a community cookbook that is available for purchase. Outside of Legacy, Barbara is Secretary of the Leesburg Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.

Bob and Barbara feel that they have common interests with many of their neighbors and are very happy that they made the move to Legacy. "The neighbors in the community are like members of our family," said Bob.
