 Downtown Mount Dora offers a wide variety of specialty shops and restaurants, attracting local residents and visitors. One of the favorite restaurants, opened 25 years ago by Edgar Payne, is the Victorian themed Gables Restaurant.
From soups, salads or a “quiche of the day”, as well as daily specials, the Gables has a wide variety of entrees for lunch or dinner. During our visit, we enjoyed the chicken salad and the Quiche Lorraine, and both entrees were served with fresh fruit and homemade rolls.
Dinner choices include steaks, Idaho rainbow trout with tomato-caper butter, Cajun seafood ragout with shrimp, salmon and scallops with Cajun cream over pasta. Fresh veggies, garden salads or soup are offered along with pork, beef and chicken entrees. There is quite an array to choose from!
The Gables is open for lunch weekdays from 11 AM to 2:30 PM; Dinner hours are Monday-Thursday until 8:30 PM. Friday and Saturday evenings, the dinner hour is extended to 9 PM. Sunday hours 11 AM to 3 PM.
The next time you visit Central Florida, make it a point to visit charming Mount Dora, exploring antique and gift shops in the area and head to the Gables Restaurant for a wonderful dining experience.
