One of the best ways to enjoy the natural beauty of Central Florida is to visit any one of the more than 156 State parks located throughout the state.
Many of these parks are located in Lake County, and the residents of the various Pringle communities do not have to travel far to reach one or more of these excellent facilities. Operated by the Florida Park Service, their mission is to preserve and protect the natural and cultural resources, as well as provide recreational opportunities to park visitors. More than 19 million visitors visited the State Parks in the last fiscal year. Many state parks offer visitors the chance to observe Florida’s native wildlife, such as manatees, dolphins, otters, birds of every color, deer, sea turtles and gopher tortoises.
Some parks have museums that focus on the history of Florida, while others offer great camp sites for visitors to “stay a while” to enjoy the natural surroundings. Historic ruins, battlefield sites, accessibility to the many lakes that make up Lake County, hiking trails, fishing sites, ball fields, and archaeological preserves can all be found within the State Park System. The small fees that are collected to use these parks help to maintain the excellent facilities that provide both visitors and residents the chance to see and enjoy Florida’s natural setting.
To learn about the facilities that are available at each of the parks as well as special events, go to www.FloridaStateParks.org and request a copy of their booklet entitled “Florida State Parks”.
