Racewalking – A Different Form of Exercise |
|
Most of us know that routine exercise is beneficial to our health regardless of age. Some people choose jogging, while others may find it too difficult or they may experience knee and foot problems. Others don’t feel they get enough of a cardiovascular workout with a regular walk around their neighborhood. Each person needs to find what is comfortable for their level of health and age.
Racewalking, a different type of walking exercise developed in England almost 400 years ago, is a cross between walking and jogging. Two main rules determine the difference between jogging and Racewalking. In Racewalking you must maintain contact with the ground at all times. The back toe can’t leave the ground until the heel of the front foot has touched the ground. Violation of this rule is loss of contact. The athlete’s leg must be straight as the foot comes in contact with the ground, and remain straightened until the body passes over it.

The Christmas Cactus |
|
While the Poinsettia remains the most popular of the holiday plants, a beautiful Christmas Cactus, in full bloom, is another popular seasonal plant that can be given as a gift for a special gardener or to your favorite holiday hostess.
These plants are easy to grow indoors throughout the year, and can be found in a variety of colors; such as yellow, pink, salmon, white or a combination of those colors. When they are purchased in mid-fall, they are usually found without flower buds, but as the Christmas holiday approaches, buds are forming and some may even begin to bloom. By the end of December, the buds open to expose beautiful flowers that add color and warmth to the season.

Midtown Grille |
|
The Midtown Grille, aptly named because of it’s location in midtown Leesburg, opened its doors this summer at 114 South 5th Street.
New owner, Suzanne Holmes, completely revamped her new quarters, which previously had been occupied by another restaurant, enlarging the space to accommodate 20’-30’ ceilings. It is now a beautifully decorated, full-service restaurant with both a bar area and lounge section with a wooden dance floor. There is also an outdoor covered dining area. The main dining area has a combination of booths and tables with high half-walls to provide privacy. The high ceilings in wood grain meld well with the metallic sculptured wall decorations and the various shades of brown, gold and taupe throughout the restaurant.
